Woo, 20k views!

3 min read
So, the day has come and passed. I received over 20 000 views on this deviantart profile.
Actually it was sometime around the end of April 20th it happened. but that doesn't matter.
It's a mere number, but also a milestone for so many, Including me.
So therefore I felt like doing a quick status update.

The main events since last time I wrote here includes The Gathering and a startup business full of strange people like me got going.

As far as details go, you might have noticed I my 2 most recent drawings. Both of them got the 5th place in their respective competitions at The Gathering.
That means something must have improved in my art and I'm frankly quite trilled about that. there was a prize for one of the competitions but it was nothing worth mentioning. I'm just happy to be up there.
Other than that this years The Gathering was as usual. I did have some fun with my recently acquired floppy disk camera, a Sony FD Mavica to be precise.

As for the startup I mentioned. Its a fun little dealie, nothing serious yet, but we have some fun concepts in the works. including tools for carpenters, as well as useful gadget for the 2 wheeled adventurerers out there. Or how about a updated and simpler garden hose coupling that reduces the amount of parts and accepts more than one kind of tap?
So yeah, innovation is the name of the game we play. I'll probably come with more details on what we do when the time is right, but not now.

As for future plans. My next 3 years will be spent in community college, taking a Bachelor degree in Virtual art and design.
One could discuss the need for degrees and papers in the art and design industry. I just want the experience from it, Degrees are just a bonus.
Short term plans include finishing off and releasing an app for a MLP collective card game, it functions as a counter and would be usefull in the tournaments.

Oh, if any musicians are reading this, I am looking for pony music that is chill enough to have a place in my chill-mix project. Like chillstep, Liquid DnB and Ambient music. Suggestions are also appreciated.

So yeah. that will do for a update. Stay awesome folks.

Time to get rid of a outdated piece of text that merely begs for money.

So, it's near the end of 2013. Damn this year passed quickly.
I did get stuff done though. I have taken a certification in IT (which I don't really deserve anymore...), I'm finishing of what should have been 13 years of school. And I know what to do next.
So with that in mind I don't think I wasted much time. Even if I didn't draw or paint everything I wanted to.

Artwise I don't think I have gained or lost anything. While I did improve it's nothing compared to my progression through earlier years. And that's fine. At some point art becomes such a endless grind that you might want to compare it to the new Forza 5 game.

My biggest issue has been completing larger projects. I might get started and then just call it done when there is a lot of stuff left to do.
On the other hand, I have got a lot better at drawing humans and faces, And I pick up acrylics from time to time.
Next fall I'll hopefully be in a University-College taking a 3 year study towards a Ba in Virtual Art and Design.

Anyway. Near the end of the year I'll make a 2013 summary pic.

So thanks for reading.

Another journal written for no valid reason.

So it has been a few days since The Gathering. And I think it's a good time to reflect on the events there.
To summarize it was a blast. Just like last time. Considering that the whole thing is a combination of LAN, Festival and Convention in one package. I get a lot of value for my money. Not to forget the competitions, those are great with a high level of skill among the participants.
Personally I participated in 2 compos, one being Fast Graphics, in wich I place 7th out of 20. And the other being Freestyle Graphics where I was #16 out of 20.
This brings me close to my goal of being among the top 50% in my field. Still not there though so I better practice more in the coming summer/fall.

For the lazy peeps. Here's my contest entries

Now to what I actually wanted to mention.
Since I now have nothing but conceptwork for DR and random logo's to do. What else should I do. What do you people who stumble across this journal want to see from me. I'm longing to expand my skill with everything but I don't want to post stuff people wouldn't want to see in their inbox.
I'm well aware that many of you potential readers have a interest in my fanart. Or at least that's how I think it is, Not going to assume too much here...

So what I want to hear from the audience is what they want to see from me in the near future. More ponies and fanart? or more random concepts? or maybe joke drawings? I have no idea what would be good and I really want to produce something that doesn't trash your interest in my art completely. Because the hard truth is that no artist can survive in a market if nobody likes their work.

I would really appreciate if you leave a comment below with a pointer on what you want to see. or anything actually. I need any feedback I can get.

Next week it's once again time for The Gathering, the worlds 2nd larges computer party.
This is part of the reason I have been rather inactive this month. Along with a decline in productivity overall.
Honestly it's frustrating that I can't seem to be able to balance work and art! As well as trying to turn art into something I might be able to make a living off of.

One "career" move I'm beginning to doubt is joining Dynamic Realities. The team is awesome and I'm impressed by how the CEO managed to put it all together. What i'm worrying about is whether I'm capable of delivering what is needed for the games to progress in development. I feel like I'm slowing it all down with constant art blocks and trying to catch up my my actual job. Either way, I wouldn't feel good suddenly quitting. So I'll keep going, at least till june.

Going back to party preparations:
There is several competitions there for all kinds of creative genres. My interest is ofc directed at the art and graphic related compos. The one I focus on is the "freestyle graphics" compo, i can draw anything and I think I have found a idea that will lift me out of the pit of dissapointment i was put in last year. We'll see in a week from now.

On top off all this I have ideas I want to execute. A few single pictures, a comic pilot with a fantasy world I dream about almost every night. And a graphic novel based on one of my great grandfathers books.

So combine all these projects with a full time job and a critical test in a few months I absolutely have to pass and you can probably imagine that I sortof put myself into a lot of stuff to do.

I'm still happy about it all though. I have something to fill any day with. Regardless of location and time. I can't say I see my peers having the same opportunity.
